Kentucky State Flower

Goldenrod was designated the official Kentucky State Flower in 1926. Two sprigs of goldenrod appear on the state flag, which was designed in 1918. For this reason, the Kentucky Federation of Women’s Clubs campaigned for goldenrod as an appropriate floral symbol. They were also pleased that many varieties of goldenrod thrived all over the state.

Yellow fields appear across Kentucky when the tiny flowers bloom in summer and early fall. The bright flowers attract butterflies and bees, which pollinate the plant and feed on its sweet nectar.
